Something I Noticed About the Quietest Puppy

Hi Reader,

This morning I was sitting with the puppies before the house woke up.

It is one of my favorite parts of the day.
No noise. No distractions. Just puppies exploring the world one tiny step at a time.

There is always one puppy everyone notices first.

The bold one.
The first to climb over the others.
The one that runs straight toward people like they already own the place.

Families love that puppy.

And I understand why.

But there is another puppy in almost every litter that fascinates me even more.

The quiet observer.

The one sitting a few feet back, watching everything carefully.
The one who waits a moment before joining the chaos.

Not shy.
Not nervous.

Just… thoughtful.

And over the years, I have noticed something about that puppy.

Very often, that is the one who grows into the most balanced dog.

The dog who can sit calmly at your feet while you work.
The dog who adjusts easily to family life.
The dog who doesn’t feel overwhelmed by the world.

It took me years of breeding to fully appreciate that.

Because confidence doesn’t always look loud.

Sometimes it looks like curiosity.
Sometimes it looks like patience.
Sometimes it looks like a puppy simply taking their time.

That is one of the reasons I spend so much time just watching them.

Before families choose a puppy…
before pictures go online…
before anyone falls in love with the fluff and the color…

I’m looking for the little things.

How quickly they recover from surprises.
How they approach new environments.
Whether they seek eye contact.

Tiny moments most people would miss.

But those moments often tell me who that puppy will become.

And that matters.

Because these puppies are not just puppies.

They are future companions.
Someone’s shadow around the house.
Someone’s comfort after a long day.

Sometimes even someone’s best friend for the next fifteen years.

And when I watch them in those quiet morning moments, I’m always thinking about that future.

Who will this puppy love?

And who will love them back just as much?
